to give your headlights a retro look or maintain the classic appearance of a vintage car.
According to the Highway Code articles R313-2 and R313-3:
"Every motor vehicle must be equipped at the front with two or four main-beam headlights emitting a yellow or white light forward, effectively illuminating the road at night, in clear weather, for a minimum distance of 100 meters"
These 2 articles maintain the possibility of fitting yellow lamps for dipped beam (low beam) and main beam ('full-beam') headlights. Lighting with a yellow light for dipped/main beam headlights was mandatory until January 1993 in France. From that date, white headlights were authorized and very quickly became the norm.
It was a law dating from 1936 that mandated lighting with yellow headlights. Several reasons are given for the obligation of yellow headlights:
- Pre-war period, easy identification of foreign vehicles
- According to scientific reports of the time, yellow headlights caused less glare
- Better visibility in difficult weather: rain, fog, etc.
