The T3 Bulb: The Smallest of Dashboard Miniatures
The T3 is one of the smallest automotive bulbs available. The "T" stands for Tubular format, and the "3" indicates the glass diameter in millimeters. With a diameter of only 3 mm, it fits into the narrowest dashboard housings to illuminate discreet indicator lights.
Typical uses:
- Secondary dashboard indicator lights (thin warning lights)
- Internal turn signal indicators in the speedometer
- Occasional warning lights (oil level, pressure, etc.)
- Indicators on vehicles pre-1990 with analog dashboards
T3 vs T4, T5, T6.5: The Miniature Family
The T family includes several diameters for different needs:
- T3 — 3 mm diameter, the smallest dashboard indicator lights
- T4.2 / T4.7 — ~4-5 mm diameter, intermediate indicator lights
- T5 — 5 mm diameter, the most common format for modern dashboards
- T6.5 — 6.5 mm diameter, specific indicator lights on some premium dashboards
These formats are not interchangeable — each diameter corresponds to a specific housing.
T3 LED: Modernizing Old Indicator Lights
T3 LEDs are available and allow you to modernize an old dashboard:
- Whiter and brighter light than the original 1.2W halogen
- 10× longer lifespan — practical for infrequently used classic cars
- Possible customization: white, blue, green, red colors
Pay attention to polarity on LEDs — if the LED does not light up after installation, remove it and reinstall it in the opposite direction.
