The R5W bulb: red glass parking lights

The R5W is a 5W BA15S bulb with red tinted glass directly on the bulb (the "R" in R5W stands for Red). Unlike many taillights where the plastic of the light cluster provides the red color, the R5W itself produces red light.

Typical uses:

• Rear parking lights on certain old vehicles with clear lenses
• Trailer and caravan marker lights
• Certain utility vehicles and industrial vehicles
• Specific red signaling applications (agricultural equipment, road signs)

The R10W is the 10W version for positions requiring more intensity.

R5W or P21W: what's the difference?

Frequent question:

• Both bulbs have the same BA15S base (1 centered pin)
• The P21W is a clear (21W) bulb — the red light cluster filters the light
• The R5W is a red (5W) bulb — it produces red light itself, without a plastic filter

To identify your need:

• Colorless/transparent light cluster = R5W (the red comes from the bulb)
• Red light cluster and clear bulb = probably P21W or similar

R5W LED: improve your parking lights

R5W LED bulbs (with red light) are available with:

• Brighter rendition than the original yellow-red halogen
• 10× longer lifespan
• Reduced consumption

Particularly interesting for trailers and caravans (subject to frequent use, repeated connection/disconnection, humid environment). No special approval is required for parking lights on trailers in normal circulation.
