W3W and W2.3W Miniature Bulbs: Dashboard Indicator Lights

The W3W (3W) and W2.3W (2.3W) are among the smallest automotive bulbs available. They have a W2.1×4.6d plastic wedge base — much more compact than the W2.1×9.5d of the W5W/T10. They illuminate:

• Secondary indicator lights on the dashboard
• Small control indicators (heating, ventilation, heated seats)
• Certain door handle lights
• Door sill lights

Their very compact format allows them to fit into spaces inaccessible to a T5 or W5W.

W3W or W5W: Beware of Confusion

Visually similar (both with a plastic wedge base), but they are not interchangeable:

• W5W (T10) — 5W, larger, for side lights and license plate
• W3W — 3W, smaller, for interior indicator lights

The physical format is different: the W3W will not fit into a W5W holder (it "floats"), and conversely, the W5W will not fit into a W3W holder (too large). Check the exact designation on the original bulb — marked W3W, W2.3W or W2W on the glass or base.

LED W3W: Modernizing the Dashboard

Miniature W3W LEDs exist and provide a whiter, brighter light and a much longer lifespan than the original halogen. On modern dashboards, these LEDs are sometimes difficult to find outside of specialists — Pharos Boutique maintains this specific range.
