What is an HIR2 bulb?
HIR stands for Halogen Infrared Reflective — an advanced halogen technology. The bulb's glass is treated with an infrared coating that reflects heat back to the filament. This allows the filament to reach a higher temperature with the same electrical consumption (55W), thus producing up to 15-20% more light compared to a standard halogen bulb of the same wattage — without consuming more power.
Base PX22d, specific to HIR2. Designation 9012 (American SAE standard) = identical to HIR2 (CEE standard).
Which vehicles use HIR2 bulbs?
The HIR2 is almost exclusively fitted on Toyota and Honda in Europe:
- Toyota: Auris 2 (2012-2019), Yaris 3 (2011-2019), Verso 2, some post-2015 Corollas
- Honda: Civic 9 (2012-2015), some CR-V 4s
If you have a Toyota Auris or Yaris of this generation and your low beam is out — you need an HIR2. Do not confuse it with H7 or HB4: the HIR2 is not interchangeable with these bases (even if the physical format may appear similar).
HIR2 halogen or HIR2 LED kit?
- Original HIR2 halogen — already produces 15% more light than a standard halogen thanks to the infrared coating. Excellent value for money, identical replacement, no compatibility issues.
- Approved HIR2 LED kit — even better performance: 5,000-6,500K white light, 5× longer lifespan, 2× brighter than the HIR2 halogen. Check for the "E" marking for technical inspection compliance.
Precaution: Canbus compatibility must be checked. Toyota vehicles of these generations (especially Auris 2 and Yaris 3) can be sensitive to consumption variations and generate a dashboard error light with a non-Canbus LED.
HIR2 or 9012: same product, two names
The designation HIR2 is the CEE standard (Economic Commission for Europe) while 9012 is the North American SAE nomenclature. Both refer to exactly the same bulb — if your manual indicates "9012" (often the case on vehicles imported from the USA or with English documentation), look for "HIR2" on specialized French websites.
The rare bulb found at a specialist
The HIR2 is difficult to find in supermarkets or general auto chain stores. Pharos Boutique keeps this range in stock specifically for concerned Toyota and Honda owners — saving you from wandering from store to store.
