The T6.5 Bulb: Premium Dashboard Indicator Lights

The T6.5 is the largest of the T-family miniature bulbs for dashboards. With its 6.5 mm diameter, it sits above the standard T5 (5 mm) and offers a wider illuminated surface.

It is mainly found in:

• High-end vehicles with detailed instrumentation
• Premium dashboards requiring extended light diffusion
• Certain warning lights demanding increased visibility
• Specific color indicators (orange, red) on luxury vehicles

T6.5 vs T5: When to size up?

The T5 (5 mm) covers the vast majority of dashboard needs — it's the modern standard. The T6.5 is used when the physical housing requires it or when a wider diffusion is needed for a specific indicator light.

Important: do not attempt to substitute a T5 for a T6.5 (too small, unstable contact) or vice versa (T6.5 too large, won't fit).

Identifying your T6.5

Remove the old bulb and measure its diameter with calipers — exactly 6.5 mm. The designation is sometimes marked on the bulb ("T6.5" or "6.5mm"). If in doubt, consult the manufacturer's manual or a parts website by vehicle registration.

T6.5 LED

T6.5 LEDs offer the same advantages as other miniature dashboard bulbs: long lifespan, whiter light, choice of color. Polarity still needs to be checked — if the LED does not light up, remove it and reinsert it rotated 180°.
