Lens repair: repairing without changing the entire light unit

A lens (or cover) is the transparent colored part of a light – the visible piece that gives the light beam its hue. A cracked or broken lens can lead to water infiltration, reflector corrosion, and ultimately the complete failure of the light.

Rather than replacing the entire light unit (which is costly), a replacement lens can be mounted directly onto the existing housing for just a few euros. Essential for:

• Marker lights on trucks and trailers – subject to impacts from branches, splinters, and minor accidents
• Position lights on older vehicles for which original parts are no longer available new
• Rear light units that have sustained an impact without damage to the reflector – quick restoration of waterproofing
• Utility trailer lights – particularly exposed and sold individually

Silicone cap: changing the color of a light

Silicone caps are flexible sleeves that slide directly over the bulb to change its color. Very useful for:

• Harmonizing lights – replacing a hard-to-find colored lens with a silicone cap on the bulb
• Creating an aesthetic effect on custom lighting (under-cabinet, interior)
• Protecting the bulb from water or dust splashes on exposed lights

The flexible silicone adapts to many bulb shapes: BA15S, P21W, T10, T15, festoon bulbs. Important technical note: LED compatibility recommended – some high-power halogen bulbs (H7, H4) can overheat the silicone and melt it.

Choosing the right color

Regulatory colors for exterior lights (mandatory reminder):

• Red – brake and rear position lights, rear fog lights
• Orange / amber – turn signals (legally mandatory color)
• White – reverse lights and license plate illumination

Never modify the color of a regulated light (brake, turn signal, reverse) without complying with the legal color – otherwise, you risk a fine and a failed technical inspection.
