Xenon effect: the white look without changing your optical system
The xenon effect is achieved by a specific treatment of the bulb's glass (slight bluish tint) and an enriched halogen gas that promotes whiter combustion. Result: a light at 4,000–4,200 K (neutral white) instead of the 3,200 K typical of a standard halogen.
Advantages: compatible as a direct replacement on any halogen support, without vehicle modification, without ballast, without additional approval. You benefit from a whiter and more modern visual rendering while strictly adhering to standard R37.
Super White vs real xenon: the honest differences
Let's be clear: the xenon effect is not real HID xenon. Comparative table:
- Real HID xenon (D1S, D2S, D3S, D4S) — electric arc technology, 3 times brighter than halogen, requires a ballast and an adapted optical system. Available ex-factory on premium vehicles.
- Xenon effect / Super White — halogen bulb with tinted glass, whiter light but slightly less bright than a standard non-tinted halogen (the filter glass absorbs some of the lumens). Moderate cost, immediate installation.
If you want a real gain in brightness, you need either original HID xenon or a CE-approved LED kit. For a purely visual effect at a reduced cost, the halogen xenon effect is an excellent option.
Who is it for?
The xenon effect is particularly suitable for:
- Older or mid-range vehicles that do not have original xenon
- Parking lights and side lights — the visual effect is most pronounced here, and the loss of brightness is not penalizing (parking lights are for being seen, not for seeing)
- Drivers who want to modernize the appearance of their headlights without major investment and without technical modification
- Cars already equipped with halogen where an approved LED upgrade is not available for the bulb base
