Collection: Transplanting pots

Splice connectors (or insulation displacement connectors) allow you to tap into an existing cable without cutting or stripping it. An internal blade pierces the insulation upon closing — installation in less than a minute.

Ideal for adding an accessory (sensor, indicator light, additional lighting) without touching the original wiring.

Tap splice connector: tap into a cable in seconds

The tap splice connector allows you to tap into a signal or power supply from an existing cable without interrupting it. Ultra-fast procedure:

  1. Insert the source cable into the designated groove of the connector
  2. Slide the tap cable (to be connected) into the second groove
  3. Close the connector with pliers — an internal blade pierces both insulations and establishes electrical contact

Installation in less than a minute, without any stripping tools, without cutting the source cable. Ideal for adding accessories without modifying the original harness.

Usage limits: when to avoid the tap splice connector

This technique has precise limits that must be observed:

  • Low power only (< 10 A) — insulation piercing does not guarantee a contact quality comparable to classic crimping. For higher currents, crimping on stripped cable remains mandatory.
  • Avoid on communication buses (CAN, LIN) and certain sensors — adding a load by tapping can disrupt the signal and lead to errors in the ECU.
  • Permanent connection — the tap splice connector cannot be disconnected without damaging the source cable. Do not use for temporary accessories.

Ideal case: adding an LED indicator, a temperature sensor, a small ambient light, a wired rearview camera — all low-consumption equipment for permanent installation.

Choosing the right size

Classic color code: red for thin wires (0.5–1.5mm²), blue for medium wires (1.5–2.5mm²). Both cables (source and tap) must fit into the corresponding grooves — check before purchase.
