EBS and BAX10d: Volkswagen Group Bases

EBS and EBS-R bases have been equipping VAG Group (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda) dashboards since the 1990s. The EBS-R version includes a resistor to manage consumption and prevent error messages from the ECU.

The BAX10d (bayonet 10mm, double contact, offset pins) primarily equips premium German vehicles for instrument cluster warning lights and instrumentation lighting. Different from the standard BA9s due to its larger diameter, it is not interchangeable with other bases.

B8.3d, B8.4d, B8.5d: BMW and Volvo Bases

The B8.xd family includes several base lengths for BMW, Volvo, and some Asian model dashboards. The number indicates the base length in millimeters:

• B8.3d — 3 mm length, most compact warning lights
• B8.4d — 4 mm, intermediate format
• B8.5d — 5 mm, most common on BMW and Volvo

The BX8.4d and BX8.5d variants are offset contact versions to prevent inversion during installation — on certain BMW and Mercedes applications requiring a precise insertion direction.

E10: The Universal Screw Base

The E10 is a threaded screw base (Edison thread 10 mm), distinct from the wedge base family. It is found in:

• Industrial signaling devices (rotating beacons, machine indicator lights)
• Certain old vehicle dashboards (before 1990)
• Technical flashlights and marking equipment

The E10 screws in like a domestic light bulb, unlike wedge bases which clip in by pressure. Still in use in old motorcycles and industrial signaling.

Identifying Your Base

For these specialized bases, consulting the manufacturer's manual is essential — references are rarely standardized between brands. Failing that, remove the defective bulb, read the engraved marking (e.g., "EBS 12V 1.2W" or "B8.5d 12V 2W"), and compare with our catalog. For vehicles older than 10 years, do not hesitate to contact us with the make, model, and year — we can often identify the correct reference from this information.
