Collection: LED Signaling & Stop

LED signal bulbs improve safety due to their response time being 5 times faster than halogen bulbs — a valuable gain for brake lights. Pharos Boutique offers the complete range for turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, and rear position lights.

Canbus versions are available to prevent hyperflashing on recent vehicles with electronic control units.

Why switch to LED signal lights?

Switching to LED signal lights offers several measurable advantages:

  • 5 times faster response time than halogen — a critical point for brake lights. A halogen bulb takes 200 to 300 milliseconds to reach full power; an LED lights up in less than 50 ms. At 90 km/h, this difference represents nearly 5 meters less stopping distance for the following vehicle.
  • 10 to 15 times longer lifespan than halogen — particularly useful for turn signals in intensive urban use.
  • Consumption divided by 5 — eases the alternator and preserves the battery on vehicles with frequent stops/starts (city cars in urban use).

LED Stop and LED Turn Signals: Technical Points to Know

LED Brake Lights: direct replacement without constraints on most vehicles. On recent models (post-2010) with a CAN-Bus system, check compatibility — a non-Canbus LED may trigger an error light on the dashboard, without preventing operation.

LED Turn Signals: beware of hyperflashing (too fast blinking). Cause: the LED consumes less than an equivalent halogen bulb — the car's computer interprets this decrease as a burnt out bulb and speeds up the flash rate to warn the driver. Two solutions:

  • Canbus LED — integrates a load resistor that simulates the consumption of a halogen bulb. Clean solution, no modification.
  • External Load Resistor — 50 W / 6 Ω resistor to be mounted in parallel with each turn signal. More economical, but requires electrical installation.

What is the CAN-Bus system?

The CAN-Bus (Controller Area Network) is an electronic communication system used in modern vehicles (post-2005 approximately). It allows the various ECUs (Electronic Control Units) in the car to communicate with each other and continuously monitor the status of equipment — including the consumption of each bulb.

A "Canbus" LED is designed to electrically replicate the behavior of a standard halogen bulb: same resistance, same apparent consumption. The ECU detects no anomaly. For demanding CAN-Bus vehicles (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, some Volkswagen post-2015), always choose the Canbus version.

P21W, BA15S and P21/5W in LED

The three most common bases for rear signaling are available in LED:

  • P21W (BA15S) — turn signals, reverse lights, rear fog lights. White and amber versions.
  • P21/5W (BAY15D) — combines parking light (5 W) and brake light (21 W) in a single dual-filament bulb.
  • PY21W (BAU15S) — amber turn signals with offset pins (anti-reversal).
