24V Truck Lights
The rear lighting of a heavy goods vehicle combines several functions, all of which are mandatory:
- Brake lights (red) — illuminate when braking. BAY15D (P21/5W) or P21W in 24V.
- Turn signals (orange) — P21W (BA15S) or BAU15S (PY21W) orange in 24V.
- Reverse lights (white) — P21W or W21W in 24V.
- Rear position lights (red) — R5W or integrated into the combined brake light.
Marker lights: a specificity of heavy goods vehicles
Marker lights are small bulbs placed on the sides and roof of the vehicle to indicate its dimensions (width, height, length) to other drivers. They are mandatory on:
- Any vehicle over 2.10 m wide (side)
- Any vehicle over 6 m long (additional side)
- Vehicles transporting oversized loads
Bases used: W5W 24V, BA9s 24V, T10 24V, T4W 24V — small formats distributed around the perimeter of the truck as passive signaling. Color: orange on the sides, white at the front, red at the rear.
BA15S, BAY15D and P21W in 24V
Same physical formats as in 12V, but designed for 24V voltage. Never interchange voltages — confusion is easy as the bulbs are visually identical. Always check for the "24V" marking on the base before installation.
Maintenance and preventive replacement
For professional fleets, preventive replacement of signal bulbs during revisions avoids breakdowns and roadside checks for faulty signaling. Consider bulb kits and dedicated workshop cabinets.
