The W1.2W bulb: the smallest automotive wedge bulb
The W1.2W is one of the smallest existing automotive bulbs. With only 1.2 watts of power, it is dedicated to miniature indicator lights on the dashboard and discrete indicators:
- Speedometer and tachometer indicator lights
- Warning lights for secondary controls (wipers, defrost, air conditioning)
- Fuel gauge, temperature, oil level indicator lights
- Very localized interior lighting (door handle, small areas)
W1.2W or T5: what's the difference?
A common question – both are dashboard bulbs, but they are not equivalent:
- W1.2W – 1.2W, wedge base W2.1×4.6d (mini plastic)
- T5 – generally 1.2W, slightly different wedge base W2×4.6d
Both are visually very similar but their bases do not fit into the same housing – check the exact designation on the original bulb.
W1.2W LED: modernize your indicator lights
Switching to W1.2W LED allows you to:
- Have a brighter and whiter light (the 1.2W halogen is yellowish and dull)
- Increase lifespan by 10 to 20 times
- Customize the color of the dashboard (white, blue, green, red, amber)
Pay attention to polarity: some W1.2W LEDs are directional. If the LED does not light up after installation, remove it and reinsert it rotated 180° – this is usually the solution.
