1. Why change your oil regularly?
Engine oil lubricates, cleans, and cools the engine. Over time, it collects impurities and loses its effectiveness. An oil change every 10,000 to 20,000 km (or as per manufacturer recommendations) prevents premature wear and improves engine performance.
2. Equipment needed for an oil change
- Engine oil suitable for your vehicle (see owner's manual);
- A new oil filter;
- An air filter and a fuel filter if necessary;
- A filter wrench;
- A drain pan;
- Gloves and clean rags.
3. Steps for the "engine oil" tutorial
- Warm up the engine for a few minutes to thin the oil.
- Park the car on a flat surface and secure it with the handbrake.
- Place the pan under the oil pan, then unscrew the drain plug.
- Let the oil drain completely (about 10 minutes).
- Change the oil filter by coating its gasket with a little new oil before screwing it back on.
- Screw the drain plug back in and pour in the new oil using a funnel.
- Check the oil level with the dipstick and start the engine for inspection.
4. Which engine oil to choose?
The choice depends on the type of engine (gasoline, diesel, hybrid). For most recent vehicles, prefer a synthetic 5W30 or 5W40 oil.
Key points
- Regular oil changes extend engine life.
- Always use engine oil suitable for your model.
- Replace the oil filter with each oil change.
- Do not dispose of used oil: take it to a recycling center.
