On September 26, Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, confirmed that the company will not renew its 10-year contract as a main sponsor of the Olympic Games after the Paris 2024 Games. This choice had already been mentioned by the brand, although it continues to financially support athletes. This announcement follows a similar decision by Panasonic, which also ended its sponsorship contract after 37 years. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recorded significant revenue from its sponsors, reaching 2.3 billion dollars between 2017 and 2021. Despite these disengagements, Toyota remains committed to supporting athletes.

Transport Minister expresses reservations

A debate on the management of the Périphérique

The Minister Delegate for Transport, François Durovray, expressed his doubts about the decision of the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, to limit the speed on the Paris périphérique to 50 km/h from October 1, 2024. This measure aims to reduce noise pollution and air pollution, but Durovray believes that this decision should not be made solely by the Mayor of Paris. Anne Hidalgo, however, stated that she is capable of making this decision alone, without waiting for the opinion of the State. The minister wishes to open a dialogue, recalling that the périphérique is an infrastructure used by many more people than just Parisians. This speed change sparks a debate between local and national authorities.

Faced with declining sales in Europe and the United States, as well as criticism regarding the management of recalls and quality issues, Stellantis has announced the search for a successor to its CEO, Carlos Tavares. Although his early departure does not seem imminent, the group wants to anticipate the end of his contract scheduled for 2026, highlighting the complexity of the recruitment process. This decision comes as Stellantis faces a drop in sales (-18% in the United States and -6% in Europe) and a decline in profits. In North America, the manufacturer aims to reduce its inventory by 100,000 vehicles to improve its position. The search for a successor, revealed by Bloomberg, testifies to the challenges the group is facing.
