The EBS base: VAG indicator lights (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda)

The EBS is a proprietary plastic bayonet base used by the Volkswagen group on its dashboards from the 1990s until approximately 2010. You will find it on:

• Volkswagen — Golf 3, 4, 5, Polo 3, 4, Passat B5, Touareg first generation
• Audi — A3 (8L, 8P), A4 (B5, B6, B7), A6 (C5)
• Seat — Ibiza, Leon, Toledo, Alhambra (previous generation)
• Skoda — Octavia 1, Fabia 1, Superb 1

The EBS-R variant includes a resistor to adapt to certain specific control units. Check the exact marking on the original bulb.

Why EBS and not a standard base?

The VAG group adopted this proprietary base for two main reasons:

• Space optimization on modern dashboards with dense instrumentation
• Internal standardization within the group — all brands (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda) share the same bulbs

Consequence: the EBS is unavailable in mainstream automotive retail — Norauto, Feu Vert and general auto chains do not reference this format. Only specialists or VAG dealerships offer it.

EBS LED: modernizing your VAG indicator lights

Replacement EBS LEDs are available with:

• Whiter and brighter light than the original halogen
• 10 to 20 times longer lifespan — a major advantage because dashboard disassembly is complex on VAG
• Color customization possible (white, blue, red, amber)

For vehicles with advanced CAN-Bus (Audi in particular), choose a canbus LED to avoid the dashboard error light.
